Greensboro business and community leader Ralph Shelton has been elected to the Board of Directors of the Weaver Foundation, a family foundation serving the greater Greensboro community. Shelton will be the first “non-family” board member since the Foundation’s founding in 1967. “I am so excited that Ralph has agreed to join our Board,” said Mike Weaver, co-founder of the Foundation, with his father Herman, and current Board chair. “I have worked with him over the years in a variety of community activities and have long admired his quiet, effective way of saying what needs to be said and modeling leadership for everyone. He will be a real asset to the work of the Foundation and to the Weaver family.”
Shelton is a longtime community and business leader. He is the founder and president of Southeast Fuels – a marketer of coal and oil to major accounts throughout the Southeast.
His community activities include membership on: the Board and Executive Committee of the Greensboro Partnership; the Board of the GTCC Foundation; the CEO Advisory Council of the North Carolina Center for Nonprofits; the Board of the Gateway University Research Park (joint project of UNC Greensboro and NC A&T State University); and, co-chairman of the Gateway Gardens Capital Campaign.
He has a long history of civic involvement in Greensboro, having served on the NC A&T State University Board of Trustees; chairing the Greensboro Chamber of Commerce in 1996; serving on the Moses Cone Health System Board of Directors; and, serving on the Board and Executive Committee of the NC Citizens for Business and Industry. Primary among a number of recognitions and awards he has received include the 2005 NCCJ Brotherhood Award and the Chamber of Commerce Small Business Advocate of the Year Award in 2004.
He and his wife Christine live in Greensboro and attend Providence Baptist Church. He will bring a wealth of community and business experience to the Foundation Board.
